The RGD and Capilano University invite educators to apply to speak at the 2023 Design Educators Conference taking place in Vancouver on June 1 based on the the theme 'Question Tomorrow'.
Deadline: Friday, March 17, 11:59 pm PT
"Creating a solid future through design begins with transforming design education. The RGD is thrilled to be able to bring design educators from across the country (and beyond) together for this conference. We are excited to receive your ideas and lead a conversation on how design education can evolve to equip students for all the opportunities and challenges of the future," offers Nicola Hamilton RGD, RGD President.
The world of design is in rapid flux. From constantly-evolving technologies to A.I.-generated content to the newest generation's vision for the world — how do design educators prepare students for a future full of uncertainty?
At this year's Design Educators Conference, we invite educators to submit abstracts for presentations that address the future of design education. How can we create authentic, vibrant learning experiences for design students? How do we develop the skills they may need in the future? What can we embed into the curriculum to best prepare students for a future not yet in existence?
Submit your abstract to speak at the conference.
"Change is a constant in design education. Yesterday, we were talking about design artefacts, design thinking and sustainability; today we are grappling with diversity and inclusion, remote work and AI. Educators must at the same time respond to shifting cultural landscapes that directly influence the daily experience of their students — or risk becoming redundant. The RGD's Design Educators Conference is a rare opportunity for us to come together, share and be inspired," says Carol Aitken, Chair, IDEA School of Design, Capilano University
The conference takes place June 1 at Capilano University, immediately after the RGD's DesignThinkers Conference taking place at the Vancouver Playhouse on May 30-31.
Keynote presentations will be presented by Debbie Millman and Marian Bantjes.
